Head West, Young Man

It’s an NL West extravaganza as three teams not named the Dodgers try to make a push toward the postseason. With the Padres heading east to face the first-place Phillies, and San Francisco and Arizona duking it out in the desert (115+ degrees outside, but at least there’s air conditioning inside 🥵), there’s no shortage of drama as we inch closer to the All-Star Break.

🎯 Pick’em 10 (6:35pm ET/3:35pm PT)

⚾ San Diego @ Philadelphia

Philadelphia rebounded after a rough series in Houston, finding its offense again in Atlanta. Tonight, their ace Zack Wheeler (2.45 ERA, 11.5 K/9) gets the start. He’ll face off against Matt Waldron, a knuckleballer making his season debut after time in AAA El Paso. Waldron generally throws 1–2 walks per outing and averages around five innings pitched. It’s always a gamble with a knuckleballer—he hasn’t appeared in the majors for almost a year and was roughed up in his final 2024 minor league outings. Whether the Phillies feast or flop against him is anyone’s guess, so flip a coin and see which side wins.

  1. Matt Waldron – Over/Under 1.5 walks allowed
  2. Fernando Tatis Jr. – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs
  3. Manny Machado – Over/Under 0.5 runs
  4. Max Kepler – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs
  5. J.T. Realmuto – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs

⚾ San Francisco @ Arizona

Both teams were just swept by the Miami Marlins, with the Giants also dropping a series to the White Sox. Needless to say, both clubs are hungry for momentum going into the break. The Giants will lean on ace Logan Webb (2.52 ERA, 10.1 K/9), while Ryne Nelson (3.71 ERA, 7.7 K/9) takes the mound for Arizona. Fortunately for Nelson, the Giants’offense has gone ice-cold, slashing just .216 with a .651 OPS over the past two weeks. Expect a pitcher’s duel—Webb can keep it close, but don’t hold your breath waiting for run support from San Francisco.

  1. Jung Hoo Lee – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs
  2. Rafael Devers – Over/Under 0.5 runs
  3. Willy Adames – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs
  4. Ryne Nelson – Over/Under 4.5 strikeouts
  5. Ketel Marte – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs
