Wednesday Night Baseball is Back!

Tonight marks what may be our first non–Sunday Night Baseball broadcast on ESPN this season—great for national exposure. We kick off with an interleague matchup between the 1st place New York Mets and recently improved Baltimore Orioles, followed by a nightcap in beautiful San Diego where two NL West hopefuls battle for Wild Card position. Both the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres are looking to rise in the standings during the second half of the season, but may also need to consider being sellers by the end of the month if they don’t turn it around.

🎯 Pick 10 (7:05pm ET/4:05pm PT)

⚾ NY Mets @ Baltimore

Despite a losing record over the last month, the Mets are back in first place after a strong homestand. They send David Peterson to the mound—he fared well against Baltimore last year, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out eight. In his most recent start, he beat Milwaukee with 6.2 innings of work, five hits, and four strikeouts.

Baltimore rookie Tomoyuki Sugano has hit a rough patch, carrying a 6.75 ERA over the past month while averaging 1.29 walks per outing. He’ll need a strong performance tonight if Peterson can keep the Orioles’ bats quiet through five-plus innings.

  1. David Peterson – Over/Under 5.5 hits allowed
  2. Brandon Nimmo – Over/Under 2.5 hits+runs+RBIs
  3. Juan Soto – Over/Under 0.5 strikeouts
  4. Tomoyuki Sugano – Over/Under 1.5 walks allowed
  5. Gunnar Henderson – Over/Under 1.5 hits+runs+RBIs
  6. Colton Cowser – Over/Under 0.5 hits

⚾ Arizona @ San Diego

Keep an eye on Alek Thomas’ status—he was scratched last night with right knee soreness and is listed as day-to-day. On the mound, Brandon Pfaadt has struggled recently, posting an 8.69 ERA over his last seven starts. Three of those were manageable (2 ER), but the other four averaged 5.5 earned runs.

On the flip side, Dylan Cease owns a 4.62 ERA, but that number may be inflated by factors outside his control. He’s allowing just under a hit per inning and is averaging 5.1 innings per start over his last seven outings. With the Padres offense clicking, expect Cease to get through five innings while capitalizing on Pfaadt’s recent issues.

  1. Brandon Pfaadt – Over/Under 2.5 earned runs allowed
  2. Alek Thomas – Over/Under 0.5 hits
  3. Dylan Cease – Over/Under 4.5 hits allowed
  4. Jake Croneworth – Over/Under 0.5 strikeouts
